jewishvoiceforpeace: This is what genocide looks like. These are the 2913 Palestinian children killed by the Israeli military this month, as of Thursday, October 26. As the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza intensify, we recognize with horror and grief that this death toll is already inaccurate.

We demand a ceasefire now to save lives. To stop a genocide. The Israeli military has already erased 47 entire Palestinian families from Gaza’s population registry; all members of the family, from all generations, are dead. This is loss beyond measure.

The U.S. is also responsible for this horror. 80% of the bombs that the Israeli military drops on Gaza, that are used to kill these children, are American-made. We are called to do everything we can to stop this genocide.

As we continue to demand a ceasefire and fight for a future where everyone is free and equal and safe, we refuse to forget these lives. We will always affirm that every life is precious.

Every single one of these deaths was preventable. When we say Never Again-for anyone, this is who we mean. Never Again is right now.

Quick request for help: have basically no food (just one box of pasta left) or drink (much more concerning), Leo has food for the next few days but next to no litter, and we are not in a good way food/drink-wise. I have a colossal headache as I’m typing this.

However! It’s not all bleak. :) The good news is we are so broke BECAUSE we have nearly finished jumping through every hoop we need to in order to remain housed, for at least the next year (and maybe, if we’re lucky, longer). Yay!

We were required to put up a proper deposit though, which ate up what I had saved for the laptop since my current one is dead in the water (I’m using my phone rn), and what little I had left from that big job that paid me out in June.

The other bit of bad news is that said company I was freelancing with is pretty much going under and hasn’t offered me a gig in months and don’t have the ability to pay their freelancers currently, and I haven’t been successful in finding my own clients (even with a fancy website 😔), so I need whatever help I can get for the three of us.

Working on bettering my art so I can offer commissions, and still of course offering sensitivity readings/editing services, so if you’d prefer to commission me instead of donating, please feel free.

Whether it’s $1, $5, $20, or $10k (lmao could you imagine??), every little bit helps. If you’re anti-P*yPal (as well we all should be), I also accept InstaCart gift cards, any amount helps. (You can send them to sa.bouraleh@gmail.com). If you’re a gajillionaire and just want to buy the laptop outright from my Amazon wishlist (let me put that insane request out into the universe; nothing ventured, nothing gained!), you can do so there.

Thank you for reading. Please boost/donate if able. I love you all. 🥹

    Major Update

So we’re still in the final stages of finalizing where we’re going to be staying and waiting to hear back/confirm on our eligibility for our current residence, but regardless, the building has been bought out and is being converted into a community living space in order to help ameliorate housing issues for homeless people.

Unfortunately, that means everyone has to be out of here in two to three weeks (they’re saying “as soon as possible”, and doing their best not to give a hard set date but a vague and very frustrating “before the end of the month”) because there’s going to be construction going on in the building in order to transform it from what it currently is into a facility more suited to housing people and addressing their medical/social needs.

Some people will be relocated permanently, and others will be relocated temporarily and then be able to return here once construction finishes in about a year (October - November, 2024).

We’ve yet to hear back about which one we’ll be, but given that we have to be out by the end of the month and they’ve been dragging on actually giving us a fucking actual answer, I’m trying to do what I can to insulate us from any bureaucratic jerking about and make sure that, in their effort to help house homeless people that we ironically do not end up homeless.

To that end, literally any and all assistance I can be afforded throughout the month of October will be immensely helpful to making sure all three of us are okay. This month is going to be extremely stressful and I’m asking for and appealing to your collective kindness and generosity.

We are running low on food and supplies, which is of course an imminent concern, but morale is holding. We can do this. We’ve come a long way, and we’ve made it this far. We’re gonna cross the finish line and it’ll have all been worth it. And it’s all thanks to you.

One way or another, this odyssey is coming to an end before the clock runs out on midnight on Halloween.

(I am also still very much without a laptop, and if anyone would like to help with that specifically so I can do work/earn my own income, refer to the Amazon wishlist link in the OP. It’s pretty important, and I can’t work off just my phone. Donations are accepted for that too, but obviously housing and food are the imminent priorities. I might try to focus my efforts on raising money for that once we’ve been settled into a new place, hopefully in early November.)

Thank you, everyone, for all the help over the years. Whether you donated or reblogged or sent us prayers and good vibes, I truly appreciate it so much more than you’ll ever know. Truly.

We have less than two weeks til we gotta be out of here, and while boosting has happened a lot, donations have not. I know it’s a big ask and everyone has something going on, but if you could spare anything, it would be extremely helpful. Thank you.

In serious need of help and have no drinks and very little food. This is my last attempt. We need some help immediately, for food and whatever aid we can get. Thank you.

We have about ONE WEEK before we’re out of this place. I really need any help we can get. We’re down to the wire and I appreciate everything you guys have done for us so far.

Thank you so much. Stay blessed. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💖

Today is October 23rd. They’re coming by Thursday to finalize everything and we will have to be out by Friday, October 27th or the weekend. Donations have slowed and we are very much in need of assistance.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously, even if it was $1. Thank you to everyone who boosted constantly too. We’re getting down to the wire and need as much help as we can get before then.

Please help if you can. Thank you so much.

Anon, when I first saw this ask, I thought it was going to be one of those mixers of nice, traditional sounds, like rain or a coffeeshop. And it is! And there’s lofi hiphop, my favorite sound to write to! Which means this is legitimately an excellent tool for writers, and I love you for introducing it to me.

But I also want to say. There are some choices here. That I need to point out. Because they’re either fantastic or questionable, and I can’t decide.

    Things like …

    Couple arguing.

A pale purple volume slider in the shape of an arc, on a dark purple background. The slider is set to 0, and in the center, there are two stick figures clearly engaged in a verbal fight. Beneath the slider, it's labeled with "couple arguing," as noted above.ALT

    Medieval battle.

The same slider above, except the center figure is a pair of swords crossed.ALT

Beehive, where you can write to a fuckton of bees.

The same slider as above, but the center is a bee.ALT

    Crime scene.

The same slider as above, but the center is crossed caution tape.ALT

And actually the perfect soundscape for NaNoWriMo.

Same slider as above, except the center is a radiation symbol. This one is actually labeled "nuclear siren."ALT

    (It’s here, for those curious.)

Somebody found this last week and reminded me it existed, so I'mma bring it back to this blog because it’s about ten days until some of you will need that last one. :D

israel is now demanding that the al quds hospital is evacuated. the hospital currently holds 400 patients and 12,000 people seeking shelter. there is almost nowhere to go. israel has been conducting air strikes near the hospital for the last few days and this demand to evacuate is their ‘warning’ before they bomb it.

the patients cannot leave, plenty of them are in critical condition. healthcare is being targeted by israel and this is one of the last standing hospitals.

    this is horrifying.

I’ve been a little confused by the revisionist history of people saying Dave Chappelle was never funny. Maybe not everyone dug him, but he has been on quite a few GOAT lists for stand up. During his peak in the 2000s it was not uncommon for folks to consider him the best performing stand up since Carlin and Pryor. I was among those people. Perhaps the people saying he was never funny were too young to appreciate him during that time. I don’t know.

But I don’t think we need to pretend like he always sucked. His fall from grace is an important thing to acknowledge. With people like him and JK Rowling, we are collectively trying to figure out how to deal with artists we love letting us down. It’s a good conversation to have. If we just say “well, they always sucked” I think we are avoiding dealing with it.

I’m glad JKR was mentioned comparatively too because she’s always the first person I think of in these discussions about revisionism.

And yeah it feels like a side effect of purity culture tbh. People feel this need to try and easily pigeonhole media as either Good or Bad and if it’s Bad it was always bad and people should be ashamed for ever liking it, but if it’s Good it’s exempt from criticism. Which is just… not how anything works. There’s something almost victim-blamey about it, although that’s probably the wrong phrase. This idea that you can somehow sniff out Badness through someone’s work even when it hasn’t really made itself apparent yet, and anyone who doesn’t just isn’t trying hard enough, and “if I’m just careful and vigilant and only consume the purest of pure media I can avoid falling into the trap of getting attached to something Bad!! I knew all along!!” feels like it’s coming from the same line of thinking as “you should have known there was something shady about that guy!”

    image

The point about thinking only bad people can be radicalised being dangerous is an extremely important one.

There was a time when JKR was viewed as the unproblematic queen of the left. It may not have been in the text but she made Dumbledore gay when it was barely legal to mention anything queer to children (I’m being very literal there. The first five books were published and the sixth written when Section 28 was still law and no publisher would have been legally able to mention a gay character in a children’s book).

At that time the very idea that she could ever be viewed as homophobic, or ever even remotely consider siding with a Conservative government on any issue was bizarre. The face she showed the public was inclusive and very anti Tory.

But she also went from as poor as you can be without being homeless to astronomically rich in a short period of time, had the eyes of the world on her and was really quite viciously stalked and harassed by the less ethical corners of the press. Her phone was tapped, her children stalked, friends she hadn’t spoken to in years and distant family members had people turn up on their doorsteps trying to dig up any possible story about her.

As a result she wound up extremely paranoid. I live in Edinburgh. A workman who came to fix something at my house told me he’d worked on a garden wall for her and there had been a rule of no phones allowed anywhere near her property and there was a line around the house that they weren’t allowed to cross or even approach. I’ve heard similar stories from people who have friends living near her.

People who live in that kind of state of paranoia (whether justified or not) are very easily radicalised by anyone who plays on their fears and offers any kind of safety, whether real or imagined. Yes, it could be that the bigot who has recently sided with the Tories on several occasions was always there underneath. But it also equally possible that in the past there was only ignorance on some things and that the bigotry and political swing is new and entirely the result of paranoia enabled radicalisation.

The desire to retroactively demonise everything she’s ever done and assume she was bigoted from birth is understandable, but it doesn’t reflect the reality of how people can and do change for a whole variety of reasons and that sometimes even the best people can become something you’d never have imagined possible.

It’s actively important to remember that good people can go down some horribly twisted paths, because if you reassure yourself that ‘good people’ will always remain good then you lose the ability to self reflect and examine your own ideas, or examine the difference between an actively malicious viewpoint and a confused and ignorant one.

I think one of the reasons non-Palestinian gentiles think Palestine is “complicated” is because they don’t understand what combating antisemitism actually looks like.

Like if you view combating antisemitism as generically “supporting Jews” or seeing Jews as innately “good” or even innately “victims” then Palestine seems “complicated” because what’s happening there is so obviously horrendous, but if you don’t support it or see Israel as the “good guy” or the “victim” you’re antisemitic, right?

And I don’t think this is an antisemitism specific issue either. People have a hard time with combating Islamophobia or racism in the same way. Like, you’ll get similar discomfort around the protests in Iran about the mandatory hijab or when white Americans are confronted with a right wing Black American or when there’s calls to support trans people Ghana who are being persecuted by the state.

I think the irony is when there’s calls for “nuance” around Palestine, “nuance” means pretending that carpet bombing civilians in an open air prison of your own design is morally grey, rather than that marginalisation is about power structures and victims can become victimisers when the power dynamic leans in their favour. That bigotry is not about applying the label of “bad” to universally “good” people, but about seeing groups of people as monolithic stereotypes who can never be fully human and are less deserving of basic rights and dignity.

It’s not really that Palestine is complicated so much as oppression and persecution are complicated - both towards Jews and Palestinians - and require understanding context and power structures.

In the context of Palestine, Palestinians are facing and have faced dispossessions, violence, and injustice on an astronomical scale at the hands of the Israeli state and Zionist paramilitary groups and settlers. And that is not because those colonisers are Jewish, but because colonises are colonisers and colonialism is innately violence and unjust. There’s your nuance.

After the hospital bombing, I finally heard back from my grandmother and confirmed that several of my relatives were murdered by Israeli bombing. Seven of them, to be precise. Three are still going, including her. We’ve been talking constantly ever since.

Asked if it was possible to head south, and was told they did but were also bombed there. So they decided to go back home, in Zeitoun. Their home was bombed and they were pulled out of the rumble, then driven by ambulances to the al-Ahli Arab Hospital. There were people in every corner. Gazans sheltering, sleeping on the floor. Gazans dying on the floor, waiting for beds.

Four were declared dead on arrival, three were in need of surgery and other three were just bandaged. Then, a bomb was dropped in the parking lot that made parts of the ceiling collapse, like Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah reported in that horrific conference/interview. Those in need of surgery died.

By the way, just in case you didn’t know: the Church of Saint Porphyrius, the third oldest in history, bombed by Israel a few days back, was located near the hospital.

When looking for new shelter, they saw schools with signs hanging outside, “We can’t take any more families.” They met families, sympathetic but already sheltering too many people. They’re now staying in an apartment building they found empty. Sleeping in the corner of the living room. If the family comes back, they’ll apologize and leave.

Told me she was saving her phone battery for when the bombing stopped, and she had to ask for help to rebuilt the neighborhood. But she doesn’t think it’s gonna stop anymore. The ones still with her are mute most of the time, like they’re saving energy, but she feels lonely and wanted to talk. There’s no internet and to connect to WhatsApp, people are buying “a card from the supermarket, there’s a password and username.” Not sure what she meant. Still, the internet is inconsistent and won’t load neither videos or images nor pages, so she doesn’t know what’s happening on the outside world.

Told her there were a lot of people protesting to stop the genocide, she replied, “The bombings are getting worse by the day.” The bombing yesterday was the worst she ever witnessed. The entire neighborhood is infested with the smell of death, of decomposing bodies. Bodies are piling up in the streets and she’s not sure if it’s because they ran out of places to store them, but most of them are in bags. The smoke of the bombings hide the blue sky—she hasn’t seen the clouds for a while.

Asked if I could share their pictures, names and dreams with people and was told, of which I partly agree, “they’re not entertainment.” If anyone genuinely cared, they would be alive—I’d argue there are people who do care, but I’m not gonna lecture her pain. And they don’t deserve to be used to fulfill someone’s sick fantasy. Told me to remember what some Israelis do with pictures of dead Palestinians. And I do.

For those of you who are not familiar, many times before settlers got together to celebrate the murder of Palestinians. For one, in 2015, Israeli settlers set a house in Duma, West Bank on fire. An 18-month old baby, Ali Dawbsheh, was burnt alive. Both parents later died of wounds and only a 5-year-old, Ahmad, survived, although severely injured.

Two celebrations of their murder are widely known, one at a wedding and others outside the court in which two were indicted for the terrorist attack. In the wedding, guests stabbed a photo of the toddler, Ali, while others waved guns, knives and Molotov cocktails. Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, was present.

That’s what happens in an apartheid. Palestinians are so abused by authorities that their “innocent civilians” come to accept the brutality as necessary or are desensitized by our suffering. After all, it’s been 75 years—get used to it!

So I won’t risk the image of my loved ones, in fear they are used in these kinds of depravity. I will say, though, the world lost a young footballer. Lost a female writer and an aspiring ballerina. Lost a kind father, who was also a great cook, and a loving mother that enjoyed sewing and other types of handicraft art. Lost a math teacher and a child that wanted to become one.

People think Israel is testing new weapons on them. There’s civilians arriving at the hospital with severe burns, which they thought was from white phosphorus, but apparently the pattern is different from the one caused by white phosphorus. It’s widely believed Israel tests weapons in Palestinians.

Jeff Halper, author of War Against the People, a book on Israel’s arms and surveillance technology industries, said: “Israel has kept the occupation because it’s a laboratory for weapons.”

They’ve ran out of drinkable water and the “aid” Biden sent was only for the South of Gaza and no fuel, for hospitals, was allowed in. Many shelves in the supermarket are empty. She said many are convinced that if they don’t die from the bombing, they’ll die from starvation or dehydration, or whatever disease will develop from the dirty water they’re drinking.

Told me all people do now is pray, cry and die. Told me she hopes West Bank is spared. Told her Israel bombed a mosque in West Bank and dozens of Palestinians in West Bank are being murdered by settlers, so she bided me goodbye.

This is for people of Israel/anyone who supports Israel/anyone who wants to stay “neutral” about this genocide, remember that this is how your fav “defenders/heroes/government servants are supposed to be responsible” are talking about innocent Palestinians civilians:

If you choose not to speak on this matter, if you choose to not speak up for Palestinians, then be well assured, 100% guaranteed that what’s happening in Palestine can (and will if you let Israel get away with MASS MURDER) also just as easily happen to you, and then there will be other people who would stay “neutral” and silent on this matter.

If you think that the reason you’re not taking sides is because you don’t really know the situation that well, then EDUCATE yourself. It is your responsibility, as a fucking human, to do your research to stop and prevent such atrocities from being committed.

(I know, I FUCKING KNOW I have at least a few dozen followers from Israel/support Israel/ZIONISTS who are reading this and I know that your eyes may be blind, but your hearts aren’t. Don’t be a hypocrite, and don’t be ignorant)

[image description: a printed out flyer with the picture of a sleeping grey tabby cat on it. It has text on it that reads:

    Muffin disclaimer

So you’ve ordered a muffin! We hope you’re up for a challenge.

Our wobbly tabby cat Bea REALLY likes muffins so there are a few things to be aware of if you have a muffin in the cat area.

    - She WILL climb you to try and get your muffin
    - She is not very good at climbing so she will claw her way up your body
    - It WILL hurt
    - She WILL NOT give up
    - She may try to eat the muffin right out of your mouth
    - She is not allowed to eat muffins

You may pick her up / move her away if needed and if you’re really struggling, come and talk to us and we will help. No matter how much she wants to, it is still very important that you don’t let her eat any muffin as it will make her sick.

Good luck and we hope you enjoy your muffin experience!

She may look sweet and innocent but we promise you she’s not

Bea the muffin thief has come upon my timeline again and I am obliged to reblog.
